Ammonium benzoate CAS 1863-63-4, also known as benzoic acid, ammonium salt, is a white, coarse powder, a finer electronic grade powder, or a colorless crystalline form that is a popular antimicrobial agent and preservative. It is used in coatings as a cost-effective, amine-free flash rust inhibitor for ferrous substrates. 

Ammonium benzoate is also used in cosmetics, personal care products, and other consumer goods. It is a preservative used in paper wrappers, rubber latex, and adhesives. This material has applications in the coatings, electronics, and water treatment industries. It is also used in hair styling, in spray fixatives for hair.

Other uses include reducing curing time in rubber vulcanization processes, acting as an anti-scaling agent and corrosion inhibitor in industrial and consumer applications, and serving as a flash rust inhibitor and electrolytic capacitor production component in the electronics and coatings industries. Used to preserve glue and latex; as an industrial preservative for paper wrappers;  as an expectorant for chronic bronchitis; as an analytical reagent for various elements; and as a urinary anti-infective.

Despite its usefulness, ammonium benzoate may irritate the skin, eyes, nose, and throat. it is essential to store it in a cool, dry place with proper ventilation and seal it to prevent irritation.
